Bayside Council provides four scheduled kerbside clean-up collections per year for domestic residents. Each collection allows up to 3 cubic metres of material, roughly one box trailer load, placed on the nature strip in front of your property. Place your items no earlier than Saturday and no later than Sunday before your scheduled collection date. Check your collection dates on the Bayside Waste Services App, the Clean-Up, Waste and Recycling Calendar delivered by post, or at bayside.nsw.gov.au.

The collection is designed for items too large for wheelie bins. If your scheduled date has passed or is weeks away, see the same-day option at the bottom of this page.

How to prepare for Bayside Council kerbside collection

To make sure your items are collected:

• Place items out on Saturday or Sunday before your collection date.
• Maximum 3 cubic metres per collection.
• Keep items neat and tidy; do not block any path or walkway.
• Place loose, broken, or small items in bags or boxes.
• Separate your rubbish into distinct piles for easier collection.
• Do not place material in rear laneways, gutters, or on public garden islands.
• All items must be able to be safely lifted by two people. Items that cannot be lifted safely will not be collected.
• Separate into four categories: mattresses; white goods and metals; e-waste (battery-free only); general household items. Mattresses, metals and white goods are collected separately on a flatbed vehicle to maximise recycling.
• Any excess material beyond 3 cubic metres must be removed within 48 hours, or it may be treated as illegally dumped.

If the presentation rules are not followed, the council may leave your material uncollected, issue a removal notice, or treat the material as illegally dumped.

Household items accepted by Bayside Council

The council collects the following items at kerbside, provided each item can be safely lifted by two people:

• General household items / furniture
• E-waste that does NOT contain batteries: TVs, set-top boxes, DVD and video players, small appliances. Battery-containing devices (laptops, phones, gaming devices) are NOT collected. See the battery safety note below.
• Metals
• White goods: detach doors before placing out.
• Mattresses, limit of 2 per collection.
• Garden organics, if correctly prepared: sticks and branches must be bundled and tied; loose or small material must be bagged or boxed; spiky plants must be securely boxed. Branches thicker than 30 centimetres or longer than 1 metre will NOT be accepted.
• Small amounts of carpet and textiles
• Fence palings: remove nails first.
• Doors: remove locks and hinges first.

Battery safety note

Do not place any item containing a battery in your kerbside pile. This includes laptops, computers, mobile phones, gaming devices, power tools, some children's toys, and anything with an internal or external battery. The council explicitly warns these can cause fires. For battery-containing items, use Council's Community Recycling Drop-Off Events or find a drop-off point on the Recycling Near Me Map at waste.bayside.nsw.gov.au.

Household items not accepted by Bayside Council

• Hazardous materials: asbestos, fibro, chemicals, paint, oil, petrol, acid, chlorine, solvents.
• Gas bottles and fire extinguishers
• Glass and mirrors: shower screens, windows, glass doors, mirrors.
• Battery items and rechargeable e-waste: laptops, computers, mobile phones, gaming devices, power tools, any item with an internal or external battery. These are a fire risk and must go to Recycling Drop-Off Events.
• Building and demolition materials: bricks, tiles, concrete, cement mix, sawdust, soil, sand, fibreglass, insulation.
• Car components: engine parts, tyres, car doors, bonnets, bumper bars.
• Structural steel and long items: sleepers, guttering or pipes longer than 1 metre.
• Food waste
• Cast iron or concrete bath tubs
• Garden organics that are NOT prepared correctly: loose grass clippings, unsecured leaves, unprepared spiky material, and branches thicker than 30 centimetres or longer than 1 metre.
• Material placed out after your street has already been cleared
